Real Madrid President Laughs Off UEFA Threats To Ban Players Over European Super League

Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez has dismissed threats from UEFA president Alexander Ceferin, that players participating in the Super League “will be banned from the World Cup in 2022 and the Euros this summer”.

Since the Super League proposal was announced on sunday April 18, there has been backlash from other clubs and fans.

The new proposed league includes 12 teams with a further three expected to be added and will automatically play in the league every year with an extra five added, based on their performance in the league.

The new league will be a money spinner for the clubs involved and will dwarf any money being paid by UEFA at the moment.

Since the league will be a mid-week competition, it will directly rival the UEFA champions league and UEFA president Ceferin threatened on Monday to punish players who participate in the league by preventing them from representing their countries.

Perez, who is one of the founders of the league has now responded to Ceferin’s threats.

In an interview with El Chiringuito on Monday, Perez laughed it off: “Every player can be calm because that’s not going to happen. They won’t be banned if they join the Super League.”

UEFA Executive Committee member Jesper Moller also said Madrid, Chelsea and Man City could all be booted out of this season’s Champions League due to their involvement in the Super League.

Perez, again, dismissed those threats, saying: “Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea will not be banned from the Champions League or domestic leagues. Impossible, I can assure you of that. 100 per cent, it won’t happen, the law protects us. This is impossible.”
