President Buhari Urges Every African Leader to Stamp Out Corruption

President Buhari said while presenting the report of his stewardship as the African Union (AU) Anti-Corruption Champion for the Year 2018 amid the association’s 32nd Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the AU in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Buhari who was represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, said among the key achievements of the African Anti-Corruption Year were the increased visibility of the AU on the anti-corruption agenda and Illicit financial flows. 

He said the progress made enabled the continent to identify priority action areas and speak with one unified voice on matters of concern.  He added that crucial to the enhanced visibility of the AU joint efforts to combat the vice was the designation and commemoration of 11th July as the African Anti-Corruption Day. 

The president further said the year also profiled some of the ground-breaking work Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies played as the arrowhead in fighting corruption at the member state level. 

He said the efforts significantly contributed to reversing perceptions and established the determination to win the fight against corruption.
