Osun Rerun: APC Floors PDP In Ife South

Gboyega Oyetola, candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Osun State governorship election, has won the rerun in Ife South Local Government Area of the state.

Oyetola polled a total 283 votes to defeat Ademola Adekele, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 15 votes.

Thursday’s rerun was a horse race between Oyetola and Adeleke in Ife South.

The rerun election, held at Ward 007, Polling Unit 012 at Olode, in Adereti village, also witnessed “heavy vote buying and inducement of the voters” by paid agents of APC.

Thugs and supporters of the APC were sighted from distance secretly sharing the sum N20,000 and N30,000 to the eligible voters.

SaharaReporters had reported the heavy presence of security agents in Olode, Adereti village in Ife South LGA, where the election took place.

Our crew monitoring the polling unit sighted heavily-armed soldiers and policemen, as well as officers of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCD) manning polling units.
Dominic Williams, an Observer from the British High Commission who monitored the election had raised a concern over the heavy presence of security agents in the polling unit.

“We can see the heavy presence of security agents here probably due to the breach in security that was witnessed here last week Saturday.

“Though, the INEC has really done a good job by ensuring an open and very transparent election here in Ife”

Mr. Bello Ahmed, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Ife South & North had told journalists that the presence of security agents in the Polling Unit was to curtail possible breach of law and order.
