Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is considering dropping Girona striker Kayode Olanrewaju for the essential 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon toward the beginning of September.
A solid source uncovered that the previous Nigeria U-17s and U-20s striker’s latency this new season could be the motivation behind why he may pass up a great opportunity.
Rohr will this week release a 28-man squad for the September 1 and September 4 clashes, with five of them on stand-by.
Also expected to miss out are Victor Osimhen, Maroof Yusuf and Kenneth Omeruo, who has been inactive as he awaits a decision on his next step at Chelsea.
The players expected in the squad include goalkeepers Dele Alampasu, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi, who was heavily blamed for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier home defeat to South Africa in June.
Other players are Tyronne Ebuehi, Leon Balogun, William Troost-Ekong, Elderson Echiejile, Shehu Abdulahi, Chidozie Awaziem, Odion Ighalo, Mikel Obi, Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo, and John Ogu.
Anthony Nwakaeme, Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi are also expected to be in the squad.
Henry Onyekuru, Uche Agbo, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Ibrahim Alhassan are expected to be placed on stand-by.
