Minister Congratulates Alaafin of Oyo

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, has described the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi 111, as a unifier and a custodian of rich cultural value.

The minister, who congratulated the first-class monarch on his 50th coronation anniversary, said: “On behalf of the good people of Oyo State and Nigerians at large, I felicitate with his Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olanrewaju Adeyemi 111, on the special occasion of his 50th coronation anniversary.

“Your reign has not only brought stability, progress and development, it has also fostered unity, love and hope in Oyo State and Nigeria. Your fatherly role, wisdom and peaceful disposition have been inspiring in the last 50 years of your reign. You are not just a custodian of our rich cultural values and tradition, but also a lover of humanity. You are a sports man.

“Your life is indeed very exemplary not only to the old generation, but also to the youth who have a lot to learn from your life of selfless service. As you continue to lead the people of our great kingdom, may God bless and sustain you in good health.”


House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila described Oba Adeyemi as a symbol of honour and integrity, whose reign has brought peace to Oyo State people.

In his congratulatory message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi, the Speaker said since his ascension to the throne 50 years ago, the Alaafin had been a source of inspiration not just to the people of Oyo kingdom, but also to the entire nation.

He said the Alaafin has become an embodiment of peace and unity among Nigerians in the last 50 years, adding that Oyo kingdom people are lucky to have Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III as their leader.

Gbajabiamila said besides being a foremost peacemaker, the Alaafin happens to be a man of honour and integrity, which has characterised his 50 years of peaceful reign as the Alaafin of Oyo.

The Speaker congratulated sons and daughters of Oyo kingdom, including the Oyo State Government, for witnessing the 50 years of the Alaafin on the throne.

He said: “Kabiyesi Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III is one man that believes in the unity of his people and the entire nation. This much he has guided his people to achieve in the last 50 years.”
