Kwara Monarchs Receive N49m Arrears
Senate President Bukola Saraki has paid the 20 months’ arrears owed 220 traditional chiefs in Kwara Central.
The affected councils – Ilorin East, Ilorin South and Asa – could not meet their financial obligations to the monarchs because of shortfalls in their allocation.
The monarchs received N49,438,000 at a brief ceremony at the Aubakar Bukola Saraki Constituency Office in Ilorin, yesterday.
Addressing the district heads, Director- General, ABS constituency office, Musa Abdullahi, said Saraki undertook the payment to provide succour for the chiefs.
Abdullahi urged the chiefs to continue to support the Senate president to enable him attract more dividends of democracy to the state.
The Alangua Ibagun, Alhaji Jimoh Alabi, who responded for his colleagues from Ilorin East, said they were happy with the gesture, saying it would reduce their suffering.
