Kunle Remi’s AMVCA snub sparks reactions on Twitter

In response to the actor Kunle Remi’s absence from the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) nomination list, some Nigerians took to Twitter to express their outrage.

Outstanding performances in television, cinema, and entertainment are honored at the yearly event.

The TV talents Bisola Aiyeola and Adjetey Anang unveiled the nominations for the 9th AMVCA on Sunday.

A plethora of prominent and upcoming actors made the nomination list.

Some of the nominees in the ‘Best Actor in Drama (Movies/Series)’ category include Tobi Bakre, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Richard Mofe Damijo, Chidi Mokeme, Daniel Etim-Effiong, and Femi Adebayo, among others.

But a noticeable omission from the list was Kunle Remi.

His omission from the list after his excellent portrayal of “Saro” in the 16-nominated film “Anikulapo.”

Many movie fans turned to twitter to express their shock that Kunle didn’t make the nomination list despite “Anikulapo’s” domination.

“So Kunle Remi, the lead actor for Anikulapo, was snubbed by the AMVCA? Lovely stuff,” a user wrote.

Another user wrote: “Kunle Remi gave one of the best performances in Nollywood last year. Still surprised he didn’t get nominated for BEST ACTOR. Still one of the best tho.”

A user alleged that “There’s something fishy about Kunle Remi not being nominated in the “Best Actor” category for Anikulapo in #AMVCA9 but the movie was nominated in other categories. I don’t know if I’m just being paranoid, but it feels like he’s been boycotted for his exposè on Nedu’s podcast.”
