Kaduna Approves Six Months Maternity Leave For Nursing Mothers

Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has approved six months maternity leave for female public servants who are nursing mothers.

El-Rufai made this known shortly after he was sworn-in for a second term as governor of Kaduna State.

He tweeted:

”I am pleased to announce that just yesterday, our State Executive Council approved six months maternity leave for our female public servants. This encourages the healthy development of infants through prolonged breastfeeding, among other benefits”.

A week ago, Guinness Nigeria announced a new policy which will offer female employees 26 weeks fully paid parental leave and male employees 4 weeks paternity leave on full rate of pay.

Guinness Nigeria has embarked on this move as part of its leading work to support a fully inclusive and diverse workforce in which there is no barriers to career progression and talent is retained and nurtured.

Speaking on this, Baker Magunda, Managing Director Guinness Nigeria Plc., said:

“We are committed to our focus on inclusion and diversity, and this takes various forms – from supporting and empowering graduates and female leaders within the business to this parental leave policy change. We believe it is a truly forward-looking decision to accelerate our work inequality for employees and their families.”
