HURIWA Seeks Arrest, Prosecution Of Miyetti Allah Leaders

Rights group HURIWA wants President Buhari to arrest and prosecute Miyetti Allah leaders to stop an alleged impending societal collapse. HURIWA says it is only by doing so that the president would prove he is serious about saving the nation from its serious security challenges.

The group also said celebrating Democracy Day while many people kept dying from violence that could be prevented was deceptive Rights group, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has demanded that President Buhari immediately arrest the leaders of the Miyett Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) over incessant killer herdsmen attacks.

The body said in a statement that this was the only way President Buhari can stop a societal collapse that is staring Nigeria in the face in the light of the killings across the country. The Guardian reports that HURIWA made the demand while reacting to the recent attack on a Catholic seminary in Jalingo, Taraba state which it condemned.

HURIWA’s national coordinator Emmanuel Onwubiko presented the body’s position in a Democracy Day statement issued in Abuja, the nation’s capital on Monday, May 28 just hours before the D-day. He said: “We are simply deceiving ourselves by celebrating Democracy Day when Nigerians in their thousands have been gruesomely dispatched to the Great Beyond by armed Fulani herdsmen who are being protected by the powers that be. “The only option open to President Buhari is to declare the Miyetti Allah Cattle Owners’ Association a terrorist group and arrest and prosecute the leaders in competent courts of law.”

He added that the situation calls for “immediate soul searching on the part of President Buhari, so he can salvage what is left of a rapidly collapsing country.” The president addressed the nation in a live broadcast which started at 7am lasted for almost 26 minutes, to explain what his administration has been able to do in the last three years.
