Governor Ikpeazu Orders Immediate Cancellation of ABSU School Fees Hike

The management of Abia State University has been ordered by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to immediately revoke the increase in tuition that was published on Monday, April 17.

The increase, which is by more than 350%, is unacceptable to the state government, especially in light of the current economic realities in the nation, according to a statement from the governor of Abia state released by his media assistant, Onyebuchi Ememanka.

The university’s management must realize clearly that it must make sure that underprivileged children in the state are given the opportunity to access postsecondary education, he said, even if it is becoming more difficult for the university to fulfill its role under the current fiscal environment.

Before considering any exponential increase in tuition, the university administration was also instructed to undertake thorough conversations with all pertinent community members in order to ensure that the state government would continue to provide financial support for the institution.
