FLASHBACK: Watch How Obasanjo Praised Kashamu And Asked God To Reward Him

Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo once commended Buruji Kashamu, former senator representing Ogun east, for his philanthropic work.

When Obasanjo visited the empowerment programme of Omo-Ilu foundation, owned by the late senator, the former president prayed for Kashamu for bringing more people to the PDP through his gestures.

The video was uploaded in 2015 but it is unclear when the programme held.

“The work you have done in the past, we appreciate it.God will reward you for that. God will not take away those things you do that makes you happy,” Obasanjo had said in the video.

Kashamu died from COVID-19 complications at a Lagos hospital, on Saturday, at the age of 62.

In a sarcastic condolence letter, Obasanjo said Kashamu’s life was a lesson for all.

He accused him of using “the maneuver of law and politics to escape from facing justice on alleged criminal offence in Nigeria and outside Nigeria”.

Responding to Obasanjo’s comment, Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti state, asked the former president to stop acting like “a saint”, saying Nigerians were on the look out for his own end.

The deceased fell out with Obasanjo in the buildup to the 2015 election and both men did not reconcile till Kashamu died.

In October 2014, Kashamu had said the Obasanjo administration gave the evidence that cleared him of drug-related charges in the United Kingdom.
