BREAKING: Buhari Cancels Today’s FEC Meeting

The weekly Federal Executive Council meeting will not be holding again today.

It would have been the first FEC meeting to be presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari following his return from medical vacation in London.

A statement from the president’s special adviser on media and publicity Mr. Femi Adesina says the President will, however, receive the report of the committee investigating allegations against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayo Oke.

That committee is headed by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who has been presiding over FEC meetings in the president’s absence.

The suspended SGF is being investigated over allegations of violations of law and due process in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE).

Mr. Ayo Oke the suspended NIA Director-General is also facing investigation following the discovery of large amounts of foreign and local currencies by the EFCC in a residential apartment Osbornerne towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, claimed by the National Intelligence Agency.

No reason was given for the cancellation of the FEC meeting.

Had the meeting been held with the President in attendance, it would have been the first time he will be presiding over it in more than three months.

Before travelling to London for a second time on May 7 to receive further medical attention, President Buhari had missed the FEC meeting for weeks.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who was the Acting President while he was away had presided over the weekly meeting in his absence.

Professor Osinbajo also presided over those the President missed before travelling to London.

The news comes a day after reports emerged that the President will be working from home because his office is being renovated after rodents moved in and damaged some items in the office while he was away.
