Twenty-one inmates of Sokoto Central Prison have been given the opportunity to regain their freedom after paying their fines and compesations totaling over N2.145 million by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, speaking to Sokoto North senatorial District.
“The gesture was aimed at enabling the beneficiaries to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir with their various families,”he stated.
The Senator who was represented by the Secretary, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko Free Legal Services, Barrister Bashir Jodi,added “such kinds of philanthropic acts are highly encouraged during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.”
Wamakko who is also the Chairman, Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, said the gesture was also to contribute towards decongesting prisons in the country.
He advised the freed inmates to shun any act capable of taking them back to the prison.
Some of the freed inmates who spoke on the gesture, were full of gratitude to the Senator Wamakko.
